You Become What You Consume

We've all heard the phrase "you are what you eat!" right? Well, you are also what you think!  


The law of consumption is simple; you become what you consume.


Focus on positive thoughts, and you will see more positive in your life. However, the opposite is also true. If you spend the majority of your time-consuming negativity daily, then all you will see is the downside to every opportunity. It is critical to limit the amount of "bad news" you read each day so you can see opportunities clearly. If not, you will create a pessimism that sabotages the opportunities you come across.


The oldest book in the world even speaks to this...

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things." - Philippians 4:9


So how do you stop fear from dictating your decisions? Stop the cycle before it even starts. Here are some tips that will help...

1. Stop Watching The New

Unfortunately, negativity sells, so good news often doesn't make the headlines. Doesn't the image below just stress you out? That is what it's designed to do...unfortunately people don't even realize it and read this stuff every single day.

Here's a tip from real estate investing legend Robert Kiyosaki. He shared a powerful quote in one of his books that said, "stop watching the news. If something is that important, then someone else will tell you about it." This advice might sound funny, but there is so much value here. If you are going to be successful (and stay that way), you will have to protect your mindset.


The only thing reading negative news does is, send you on a distracting thought spiral that takes your focus off the most important thing you need to do in your business to reach your goals.

2. Focus Only On What You Can Control

I like to only focus on the situations I can control. The reason I don't follow the news too closely or worry so much about what's going to happen with the real estate market is because I can't control it. You can call it whatever you want, sticking my head into the sand or not being "informed", but in my opinion, there is too much negativity being broadcasted in the world today and that, in my opinion, is the real weapon of mass destruction. The only things I can control are my actions on a day-to-day basis and the steps I take to reach my goals.

What's going on in the economy does not concern me, because the overall outcome does not involve me personally. If I can't control it, then why should I focus on it? When you focus on what you can't control, all it does is create mental stress and anxiety, which is another blocker to success.

3. Limit Time On Social Media & Flip Your Focus

Flip your focus from consumer to producer. Set a goal for yourself to spend only 30 minutes a day on social media and when you hop on, make sure to have a defined purpose for it. Don't just hop on every free second and mindlessly scroll. When you do this, you are literally opening the negativity flood gates and putting yourself in a position to be bombarded with negativity.


Instead, become a producer. Producers encourage others. They generate leads for their business by posting something meaningful. They share blog posts (like this one!) with others that need to hear it—producers prospect for cash buyers and motivated sellers.


It doesn't matter what you do, but have a purpose, a defined outcome, and sign off. Produce, but don't consume. Trust me. You will feel better mentally, get more accomplished, reach your goals faster, and have more peace.

Realize The Truth...Fear Is Not Real.

There was a sci-fi movie with Will Smith a few years back that had an amazing quote. In the movie he said:

Wow. Fear is a choice. Isn't that so freeing? 99% of what we fear never happens. To overcome fear, we must first accept this one truth...fear is not real. Yep, you heard that right. The majority of what we fear is not real and will never actually happen. It is False Evidence only Appearing Real.


So, in conclusion, if fear only appears real, but is really just our imagined thoughts of the future, then wouldn't it make sense to imagine a victory instead? Flip the script and fear will have less control over your daily decisions.
